New discovery in fight against Alzheimer’s

The discovery of a chemical compound, which could halt the death of brain tissue in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, has been described as a ‘landmark study’.

Tested on mice with prion disease, those given the compound displayed no brain tissue wastage at all. Whilst work is at an early stage, it is believed that this chemical could hold the key to preventing a number of neurodegenerative diseases.

The study was published in Science Translational Medicine.
